Water Conservation
Under the World Bank’s Small Grants Program, Children’s Global Network, Pakistan (CGN-P) held a three day workshop (December 4th – 6th 2008) on water conservation. Teachers working in the Family Literacy Program from the sectors Sihala and Nilore attended. The purpose of the workshop was to create awareness among school children and their family members to improve the quality, efficiency and accountability with which water is supplied
CGN-P trained 60 school teachers who will now subsequently train 140 members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) from their respective communities. Additional assistance will be provided by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) so that the teachers remain actively involved.
Mr. Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi, Minister of Environment was invited to be the chief guest at the concluding session of workshop. The other guests on the panel included Mr. Said Al Habsy, Operations Advisor, World Bank, Ms. Mehnaz Aziz, Chief Executive Children’s Global Network, Pakistan, Professor Mohammad Rafiq Tahir, Director Training and Colleges from the Federal Directorate of Education.
Mr. Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi in his closing remarks on the occasion stated that the government of Pakistan values private sector partnerships which help reach out to all and provide technical assistance. After successfully introducing and implementing a globally tried and tested interactive learning and teaching methodology into the main stream of primary schooling in various districts of Pakistan, the government welcomes CGN’s efforts to create a cleaner and safer environment for our people where healthy intellectual growth is certain.
