CANADA PAKISTAN BASIC EDUCATION PROJECT (CPBEP)

Interactive Teaching and Learning Pedagogies
for Teacher Training Institutes

HUBs In the latest extension of its higher education program, Children’s Global Network in collaboration with Canada Pakistan Basic Education project is establishing Hubs for Learner centered instruction (HuLCi’s) in seven main teacher education colleges of Multan, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The following institutions will benefit from this exercise:

Federal College of Education (FCE), Islamabad -1
University of Education (UE), Multan -1
Government Colleges for Elementary Teachers (GCETs), Multan-3
Government College for Elementary teachers (GCETs), Rawalpindi-2

A series of activities conducted over a period of six months will lead to the establishment of HuLCi’s which will act as resources centers on the use and application of Child Centered Interactive Teaching and Learning methodologies in classrooms and will be used by faculty members of these institutions to acquaint their own B.Ed and M.Ed students with interactive teaching and learning practices.

CGN has planned a number of exercises towards this end which included a meeting between CGN-P team members and faculty members of targeted institutions to gauge their level of prowess and accordingly plan training workshops. The first five day training workshop will be conducted later this month in Islamabad, followed by a similar workshop in Multan. The trainings will include:

  • Faculty lesson plans which indicate utilization of resources at HuLCI
  • Micro teaching sessions which indicate utilization of resources at HuLCI
  • Teaching practice lesson plans by students which indicate utilization of resources available at HuLCi’s
  • Develop mentoring mechanisms for extending HuLCI services to school teachers and heads within the region.

The CGN-P team will also physically set up the centers providing interactive learning materials.  Technical assistance will also be provided regularly by the CGN-P team following the trainings. Follow-up trainings dealing with concerns and problems will be held two months after the initial trainings in Islamabad and Multan.
