Teachers Corner
The ability to communicate with the young is a vital characteristic of good teaching. A good teacher must be a avid listener. Challenge the students but don't overwhelm. As a teacher knowing the tests to put a young scholar through so that he/she is convinced of their own learning is extremely important.
A Few points to Ponder:
- Knowing student's names, and calling them by name.
- Greet students pleasantly.
- Remembering something that had earlier worried a student, and asking about it ("Is your mother recovering from her operation?")
- Carefully following the motto which all our parents taught us too; "If you can't say anything good about someone, don't say anything at all."
- Provide frequent feedback to the student privately (i.e., "Maryam, you're not working hard enough.", "Ali; I saw you were bullying others.")
- Bring out the positive in students and always praise their good work. Students learn faster when they feel they are successful.
- Show friendliness, and try to repress personal annoyances towards any particular student.
